About the Author
Alicia Anne Adams is a professional writer with a love for all things folkloric. From creative content writing for heritage craft businesses to works of fiction and poetry, she applies her carefully honed skills and flair for the fantastic to each piece she takes on.

Alicia splits her time between freelance content writing and managing Balefire Blades, the swordsmithing business she co-founded with her husband. This experience of starting a small heritage craft business inspired Alicia to help other traditional crafters tell their stories.

With ten years' experience writing web copy, white papers, blogs, magazine articles and books for businesses of all sizes, Alicia brings poise and professionalism to each project she takes on, seeking out the story at the heart of each business she works with.

When she's not writing business content, Alicia works on her debut fantasy novel, writes lyrics for her music project Fae as Folk, and makes fine leather goods for Balefire Blades.
She lives in Sussex by the Sea, where she swims in the sea, swings swords and sings shanties.

My varied roles and writings
Durham University
September 2009 - June 2013
I fell in love with Medieval Literature on the cobbled streets of Durham, where I studied for both my BA and my MA. My Master's thesis was on the theme of lycanthropy in Old Norse sagas, or Viking werewolves for short.
EFL Teacher
January 2014-January 2016
I spent two years living and working as an English teacher in Prague, carrying on the theme of cobbled streets. My students ranged from a class of preschoolers to PhD students and business professionals. Teaching allowed me to hone my technical understanding of the English language, as well as making me more flexible and adaptable to different client needs.
Content Specialist
January 2016-December 2017
My work at a digital content agency in Brighton really kick-started my interest in storytelling through content. I worked with a number of high-profile clients, from national charities to major music festivals to medical service providers, adapting my style and tone fluidly for each, yet maintaining the same levels of professionalism and perfect English.
Freelance Writer
January 2018-Present
In 2018 I went freelance, and never looked back. My clients have included SaaS providers, international charities, real estate professionals, and artists. In recent years, I have turned my skills toward traditional crafters in particular, drawing out the magic of heritage crafts as a touchstone to our history.
Balefire Blades
January 2018-Present
The start of my freelance career coincided with the birth of Balefire Blades, the swordsmithing business that I run with my husband. While he works at the anvil creating one-of-a-kind swords, I communicate with clients and run the company's website and social pages. In 2022 I started leatherworking for Balefire Blades, creating scabbards, sword belts and protective gear for historical fencers.
